The Project

Project
Although TWCF is only one year old, much progress has taken place.  TWCF is a registered society in British Columbia, and charitable status has been applied for. Thirty acres of land in the district of Isuikwato/Umunneochi , Nigeria, has been donated and registered to TWCF, and design and construction for the orphanage is underway. On December 21/06, after a month in Nigeria, the executive director of TWCF returned to BC having met with state and federal governors, judges, lawyers, port authorities (who will clear shipments), a general, church officials, village chiefs and elders, all of who have pledged to assist TWCF in making the project a reality.

Fundraising
•    The Canadian office of TWCF is in the process of coordinating fundraising efforts through Federal, Provincial, and local governments as well as special events.
•    The group has also begun an awareness campaign in the local schools grades K to 12. This portion of the project is being driven by the leadership classes of both Chilliwack and Sardis senior high schools.
•    We encourage both private and corporate donations.

All funds raised by the foundation will be used to supply the Nigerian based operation in the most cost effective way possible.

Orphanage project
The orphanage and accompanying proposals represent the core of TWCFs reason for being. The “on ground” work in Nigeria will consist of three phases:

Phase One :
•    This is the first of three proposed projects and has already begun. The 30 acre parcel of land is currently being negotiated, and plans have been formalized for the construction of the permenant facility .  A bore-hole well will also be a neccessity as even the surrounding villages have no clean drinking water. Children commonly die due to water borne illness and disease.
•    Courtney is working with local government, child service representatives, churches, village chiefs and elders, to establish a system which identifies children in crisis. This is a job for a small army given the state of the country’s infrastructure.
•    Sourcing trades people.
•    Identifying and hiring a team to staff and attend to the children.

Phase Two
The second phase of the project will be to establish a medical clinic with the ability of handling HIV/AIDS children. The size and scope of this second phase is hard to envision as the current level of medical care in Nigeria is either non-existent or completely inadequate. .” ... because they cannot afford even the simplest medical care many practice self-medication, administering whatever they think will bring relief”  (Why Nations are Poor, Profiles in poverty and imperative of action. Pat Utomi ).

Phase Three
The third phase of TWCF will consist of an on site school capable of attending to the educational needs of children K through grade 12. We hope to one day add a trades component to the school.
