The Project
Project Overview
The Wanted Children Foundation operates an orphanage, feeding program and clinic out of a large 10 bedroom home and gated compound which was donated by a local. This beautiful home can house up to 20 children and staff has a guard station and a generator to supply power. There is no electricity, or running water in the area. The facility lies in the rural district of Isuikwato-Umunneochi, in Abia State. This area was part of the former country of Biafra and is still very much oppressed and the people still marginalized. Many local children who are not a part of "live-in" care are also fed, clothed and educated.
Phase One:Orphanage Project This phase is well on the way to completion. Currently the facilitiy is is in need of 2 more staff members and a bore-hole. • TWCF is working with local government, child service representatives, churches, village chiefs and elders, to establish a system which identifies children in crisis. This is a momumental task given the state of the country’s infrastructure.
Phase Two: Medical Clinic
The second phase of the project will be to establish a larger medical clinic with the ability of handling HIV/AIDS children. The size and scope of this second phase is hard to envision as the current level of medical care in Nigeria is either non-existent or completely inadequate. .” ... because they cannot afford even the simplest medical care many practice self-medication, administering whatever they think will bring relief.” (Why Nations are Poor, Profiles in poverty and imperative of action. Pat Utomi ).
Phase Three: Bole Hole ( Water Well) Project
We are currently fundraising to purchase a drilling truck and rig which be used to install wells. This bore-hole will provide drinking water to the orphanage itself, (currently all water is purchsed) as well as to the community and its surrounding villages. Children commonly die due to water borne illness and disease.
Phase Four: School This school will benefit not only the children of the orphange but also the village children at large.
